The First Annual Hog College Home Run Drive

There was standing room only as a large crowd watched the first annual Hog College Home Run Drive. All Hog College boars and gilts were paraded together in one ring to vie for honors and showcase some of the most elite swine genetics.

A three-member panel consisting of Wayne Huinker of Iowa, Grant Norman of Illinois and Merrill Smith of Indiana, chose the individuals they felt best represented its breed and the industry for the "Chairman's Choice" award.

Collegiate judging team also chose a "College Choice." The team closest to the panel's placing will receive a $100 cash prize and subscriptions to Seedstock EDGE and Breeder's Digest.

Bert  Byrd & Brett Rosser drove their Berkshire gilt  that garnered both "Chairman's Choice" and "College Choice" gilt honors. For more information on this female visit the American Berkshire Association's website.

Darryl Mappes of Mappes Durocs drove his Crown Royal son to both  "Chairman's Choice" and "College Choice" boar honors. To read more about the National Swine Registry's Hog College nominees click here. Remember the Hog College Pre-Auction is going on now at Buyer's Choice Auction.
